ABOUT – The Dish of St Johns
Since 2004 The Dish, have been providing food, friendship and compassion to disadvantaged people in the Hornsby area.
They provide meals to up to 40 people two nights per week all year-round, while offering friendship from an accepting community.
Community Food Program, rescue fresh food that would otherwise be wasted from local supermarkets and bakeries so that disadvantaged people can benefit from it and keep stocked our Community Pantry for people to access when needed.
At 5:30pm Tuesday and Friday, The Dish volunteers serve a nourishing two course meal with a chat at St Peter’s Anglican Church in Hornsby.
St John’s Uniting Church Wahroonga started The Dish as a soup van out of a desire to offer food and conversation with homeless people in the local area. Originally food was served from the van in Hornsby Park two nights a week.
The Dish of St Johns are seeing more aged pensioners, people with mental health challenges and single parents. For a lot of people, it’s the only decent meal they will get that day.
The atmosphere is a dinner among friends in a safe, private setting. People don’t come just for the food, they come because they know they can have a chat.
They also rescue left-over food from supermarkets and stock a community pantry so that our community has some groceries & fresh food to take home as well.
The Dish doesn’t receive any government support. All donations to The Dish over $2 are tax-deductible.
Give a little, helps a lot!

Thank you
